Primary schools awarded accreditation status

Chorley based schools, Duke Street Primary School and St Gregory’s Catholic Primary School became the first accredited schools for the DebtAware money management programme

Over the last two years both schools have embedded the six money management modules into their schemes of work for years five and six.  The schools have fully utilised the modules and also used the lessons in their literacy and numeracy work.

Brian Souter, Education Manager at Debt Advice Foundation, commented:  “Debt Advice Foundation were delighted to present the accreditation plaques to the schools as a reward for all their efforts in supporting the DebtAware Programme along with delivering the lessons to such a high standard”

Katie Parkinson, Assistant Headteacher at Duke Street Primary commented: “ The children in years 5/6 have thoroughly enjoyed taking part in the Money Management scheme and it has been a great success.  We feel at Duke Street Primary School, it is very important to teach the children life skills that will help enable them become successful individuals in the future. Our children have gained much from this exciting and beneficial programme. We are so pleased to be recognised as an accredited centre and we look forward to developing the scheme further during the next school year”

Mr Andrew Kidd, the Headteacher at Duke Street, commented: “the project has generated a lot of enthusiasm and developed really important skills in our children”

The three children from Duke Street Primary also commented:

“We enjoyed Money Management lessons because it is a vital subject that we need to learn for when we are older. It helps us because in the future, if we need to borrow money, we will know how to do it safely and correctly.”

Both schools received the awards during their special award assemblies. Brian Souter, DebtAware Education Manager made the presentation at Duke Street Primary and Mr Jeff Moore, a trustee of the charity, made the presentation at St Gregory’s Catholic Primary School.

Mrs Ros Wroblewski, Headteacher at St Gregory’s Catholic Primary School, commented:  “ We are extremely proud to have been presented with an accreditation from the Debt Advice Foundation in recognition of our commitment to financial education and outstanding work in teaching pupils about money management at St Gregory’s. We are one of only two primary schools, who have as yet, achieved this award. Congratulations to Mr Darbyshire(Deputy Head) and the pupils in Year 5 and 6 who have been central to this fabulous achievement”

The Accreditation plaques that were awarded to the two schools were kindly sponsored by Chorley Building Society.
