Reminder 1: One module per term with extension tasks provided for the class teacher to use.
Reminder 2: The following is only the content. The key lesson will cover the majority of the content with the set extension tasks covering the rest of the module or unit.
Module one: World of work – under this module the following topics will be included:
- Module Two: Personal income & expenditure – Under this module the following topics will be included:
- The need to plan ahead in terms of own strengths and interests
- The cost &benefit of university and also apprenticeships
- How rewards differ for different occupations and why they are different
- Qualifications and skills required for different occupations, broad range covering the 4 skill categories
- Gross Pay and Net Pay. How they are different calculations
- A brief explanation of deductions and how the deductions are spent
- To look at the value of money, cost of living, basic introduction to inflation and link to the lesson on budgeting, essential payments, Council Tax, an idea of real income
- Concept of pensions and the need for them Year Six Modules
Module Three: financial risks – under this module the following topics will be included:
- Gambling dangers, when is this acceptable
- Short Term Loans (Pay Day Loans) the dangers and when acceptable to use
- Interest rates when borrowing money, an understanding of APR and basic calculations
- Advertising, dangers of too great an influence on the consumer
Notes:
There will be a rounding up of all six lessons at the end of year 6
Also the children will complete for a 2nd time the saver/spender questionnaire which was completed in Year 5
